Job Description
Thermal Engineer | Millennium Space Systems
The Tone:
This is an early career role at Millennium Space Systems, a company that designs and builds small satellites for national security, supporting critical missions such as missile warning and Earth observation. This position is vital for developing, designing, analyzing, testing, and operating the thermal systems that ensure these satellites maintain operational temperatures throughout their entire lifetime in space. The work directly contributes to mission success and global security.
The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Not specified
• Pay: $63000–$134000 yearly
• Team: Works closely with Spacecraft Development Program Managers and the Chief Systems Engineer.
• Mission: Develop, design, analyze, test, and operate spacecraft thermal systems to maintain the satellite’s component environments within temperature limits throughout its lifetime.
• Tech Stack: Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermica
What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Perform comprehensive spacecraft thermal design and analyses at the board, component, subsystem, and system levels.
• Model: Develop detailed systems and spacecraft element thermal models to accurately predict thermal loads, impacts, and temperature margins.
• Communicate: Present design and analysis materials effectively to program managers, customers, and sponsors.
• Qualify: Identify and specify all necessary materials, processes, and facilities required to achieve a qualified spacecraft thermal design.
• Verify: Support thermal verification testing activities for spacecraft systems and components, including test design, hands-on test conduct, data reduction, analysis, and reporting.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or another relevant engineering or scientific field. This is an early career position (Level 1-2).
• Experience: 1 or more years of hands-on experience in the design, development, analysis, implementation, testing, and/or operation of spacecraft thermal systems or other complex thermal systems.
• Skills: 1 or more years of experience utilizing industry-standard thermal analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, and/or Thermica. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
