What We Look For In a GED Math Tutor
- Advanced Test Mastery:
- Deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content, including basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and quantitative problem-solving using the TI-30XS calculator.
- Ability to explain linear equations, slope and graphing, area and volume formulas, and statistical reasoning.
- Proficiency in preparing adult learners to achieve passing scores on the GED Math section.
- Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving:
- Skilled at teaching calculator usage strategies, translating word problems into mathematical expressions, and interpreting graphs for the GED Math test.
- Ability to guide students through solving multi-step equations, applying the Pythagorean theorem, computing measures of central tendency, and using proportional reasoning.
- Emphasis on building mathematical confidence and systematic problem-solving approaches for non-traditional learners.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
- Familiarity with GED Mathematical Reasoning content standards and common challenges (e.g., fraction operations, setting up algebraic equations from word problems, interpreting coordinate plane graphs).
- Ability to adapt instruction using diagnostic pretests, scaffolded skill progressions, and official GED practice materials to support adult learners rebuilding foundational math skills for credential completion.
- Effective Teaching Methods:
- Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
- Proficiency in explaining material using multiple approaches.
- Capability to adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Communication & Engagement: Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
