Early Career Field Construction Engineer | WSP

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Support: Assist with on-site construction activities to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and contract documents, contributing to overall quality assurance.
• Document Management: Review and update project schedules and record drawings, maintain meticulous logs of contract documents, and upload them to the project’s document control site for organized digital records.
• Technical Review: Perform engineering submittal reviews and observe material test reports to verify compliance with contract specifications and quality standards.
• Office Engineering: Execute various office engineer duties including taking meeting minutes, processing contractors’ pay estimates, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and performing quantity calculations.
• Problem Identification & Resolution: Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies, review contractor daily reports for accuracy, and consult with the Resident Engineer to proactively recommend solutions for construction problems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering field is required. This role is designed for an early career professional seeking to develop foundational construction engineering skills.
• Experience: Requires 0 to 1 years of relevant experience post-education. Candidates should demonstrate foundational knowledge and a strong work ethic through prior internship experience, leadership roles, or relevant academic coursework.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is essential. Strong technical writing, analytical abilities, and clear communication skills are necessary, along with a detail-oriented approach to producing high-quality work. A valid Illinois Driver’s license is also required.
• Bonus: E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification is preferred. Experience with Office Engineering duties on large construction projects, labor compliance verification, and Certified Payrolls are advantageous. Familiarity with e-builder software is also a plus.
