Center for Accessibility Resources (CAR) – Graduate Student Exam Proctor
Saint Xavier University’s Center for Accessibility Resources (CAR) is dedicated to ensuring equal access for students with disabilities. This part-time position offers a valuable opportunity for currently admitted Saint Xavier University graduate students to support the university’s commitment to accessibility by assisting in the administration and proctoring of exams for students who receive testing accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and Proctor Exams: Confidently administer and proctor faculty-issued exams for students with approved testing accommodations, ensuring a fair and equitable testing environment.
- Support Diverse Accommodations: Provide support for a range of accommodations, including less frequently approved requests such as reading exam content aloud or serving as a scribe, as needed.
- Maintain Security and Confidentiality: Uphold strict exam security and confidentiality at all times, promptly reporting any testing irregularities to CAR staff.
- Record Keeping: Assist with fundamental record-keeping tasks related to exam administration, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Exam Return: Facilitate the efficient return of completed exams to faculty members.
- General Office Support: Support with additional tasks related to testing, accommodations, or general office functions as directed by the CAR Coordinator, contributing to the smooth operation of the CAR office.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite.
- Student Status: Must be currently admitted to and actively enrolled in a Saint Xavier University graduate program.
- Financial Eligibility: Must be Federal Work Study Eligible.
- Application Materials: A comprehensive Resume and Cover Letter are mandatory components of the application.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience with Disabilities Services: Previous experience working with students in special education, disability services, or a higher education setting is strongly preferred.
- Accommodation Knowledge: Experience supporting IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 Plan accommodations is a distinct advantage.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable and proficient in using everyday technology, including laptops, email, and shared documents.
- Software Familiarity: Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) is beneficial.
- Organizational Skills: Possess strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively while consistently maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive testing environment.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills when interacting with both students and staff members.
- Professional Demeanor: Exhibit a calm, patient, and professional demeanor, with the ability to redirect or de-escalate challenging situations when necessary to maintain a conducive testing atmosphere.
- Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student information and testing materials.
