Junior Lifeguard Program Assistant | The City of Pompano Beach
The Tone:
This is a part-time, temporary role based in Pompano Beach, FL, within the City’s Parks & Recreation/Aquatics department. The City of Pompano Beach is dedicated to providing quality public services, including vital beach and aquatic programs that serve the community. This position is essential for the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of the Junior Lifeguard Camp and Grommet Programs. The role directly contributes to ensuring all activities for participants are engaging, safe, and well-organized, fostering a positive environment for youth development and water safety.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Assist with the implementation and daily operation of the Junior Lifeguard Camp.
• Oversee: Direct and oversee daily activities and programs conducted on the public beach.
• Plan: Plan and organize engaging daily and weekly activities for participants in both Junior Lifeguard Camp and Grommet Programs.
• Coordinate: Support the operation and coordination of State and Regional Junior Lifeguard competitions.
• Assist: Provide additional support as a Pool Lifeguard at Aquatics Facilities as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or a graduating high school senior. Essential certifications include current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA), or an equivalent certification, alongside American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications. Candidates must also demonstrate their aquatic proficiency by passing a specific swim test, which involves a 300-meter run, a 300-meter swim, and another 300-meter run. Alternatively, this swim test requirement can be met if the applicant has completed two summer sessions of Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp within the last two years of hire, or is currently employed by a USLA-Certified Agency.
• Experience: Previous participation as a Junior Lifeguard Camp attendee, competitor, or an equivalent background is required. Successful candidates must complete a physical performance and lifesaving skills test. This testing is not required for individuals currently employed by a USLA-certified agency, or for those who have completed two summer sessions of Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp either as an attendee or employee within the last two years of hire.
