Graduate Employee, Kinesiology Graduate Assistantship | Sam Houston State University

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Support: Coordinate laboratory daily schedules, organize and maintain laboratory materials, assist in the collection and analysis of data, recruit subjects for current research projects, and perform literature searches and reviews for faculty research initiatives.
• Activity Instruction: Provide instruction for undergraduate activity courses, which may include basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, weight training, bowling, racquet sports, or dance, typically teaching 2-4 one-hour classes per week.
• Lab Teaching: Instruct undergraduate students in KINE 3173: Exercise Physiology Lab, often as part of a combination role involving both teaching and research responsibilities.
• Data Integrity: Handle confidential and sensitive research data with integrity, ensuring proper management and ethical considerations are met throughout all research activities.
• Skill Development: Actively learn and apply new software and research techniques, adapting to new work-related requirements and operating specialized laboratory equipment with provided onsite training.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Acceptance into and current enrollment in one of the following graduate degree-seeking programs at SHSU: MS in Athletic Training, MS in Kinesiology (Sport and Human Performance), or MS in Sport Management. This is an early-career student employee position.
• Experience: Prior individual and sport skill background (competitive play – levels and years, and/or coaching – levels and years) is required for those teaching activity classes. Developed research skills are necessary for faculty research or combination assistantship opportunities.
• Skills: Demonstrate self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner, making significant progress without direct supervision. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills (especially with Microsoft Office, internet, and electronic media), and flexibility in adjusting to new work-related requirements. Must maintain good academic standing as defined by the SHSU Graduate and Professional Catalog.
