AoPS Academy Virtual Campus Instructor | AoPS Academy

The Tone:
This is a part-time role at AoPS Academy, located remotely within the U.S. AoPS is a global leader in K-12 advanced education, dedicated to discovering, inspiring, and training the next generation’s great problem solvers through unique problem-solving curricula. As a Virtual Campus Instructor, you will play a crucial role in strengthening students’ math and problem-solving skills, allowing them to explore new interests in a supportive online environment. This position helps AoPS achieve its mission by engaging high-achieving students in meaningful and challenging learning experiences.

The TL;DR
• Role: Part Time
• Type: Year-Round (late afternoons to evenings Mon-Fri; all day Sundays) and Summer Camps (Mon-Fri for 1-4 weeks)
• Location: Remote
• Pay: $30 hourly
• Mission: To inspire and train high-achieving K-12 students by delivering engaging virtual math and problem-solving instruction that fosters critical thinking and skill development.
• Tech Stack: Zoom

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Deliver engaging and enthusiastic math lessons to elementary, middle, and high school students in our online classrooms.
• Implement: Utilize the AoPS curriculum to teach participation-oriented classes that focus on skill development and conceptual understanding, rather than rote memorization.
• Facilitate: Cultivate a classroom environment that encourages student-led instruction, discussions, and critical thinking to empower students to actively solve problems.
• Guide: Mentor small classes, typically around 12 top-performing students, who are passionate about learning and motivated to succeed.
• Promote: Foster an atmosphere where students are encouraged to do the heavy lifting in their learning process, developing independent problem-solving abilities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A solid academic foundation in mathematics, demonstrated by a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
• Experience: Proven experience teaching or tutoring K-12 students, coupled with comfort in managing a virtual classroom using Zoom or similar video conferencing software.
• Skills: Strong mathematical content knowledge, the ability to deliver engaging and enthusiastic instruction, and a knack for fostering critical thinking and problem-solving among high-achieving students.
• Bonus: A master’s degree or higher in a STEM field, prior experience working with advanced students, and an interest in teaching across elementary, middle school, and high school levels.
