This Opportunity
WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer (CMT) to join their Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, and Materials (CGEM) group in the Southeastern District. The candidate will be based in the Brookhaven office in Atlanta, GA.
In this role, you will provide local technical assistance for testing, inspections, and entry-level project engineering tasks across various construction projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, energy sector, and infrastructure for both public and private sectors.
Tasks may involve:
- Basic assistance with field and laboratory testing.
- Various inspections.
- Estimation.
- Reporting.
- Project finance monitoring to support clients in civil, geotechnical, and environmental projects.
Candidates should expect a blend of field and office work and will be responsible for generating accurate and concise documentation. A high level of quality in construction materials testing and geotechnical engineering, meeting or exceeding industry standards, is expected.
Your Impact
Under general supervision, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, construction plans, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assisting with performing basic professional civil engineering work related to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Performing routine engineering functions and providing entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements and operating strategies to ensure the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure.
- Performing construction quality assurance (CQA) or construction quality control (CQC) on projects involving earthworks, various construction applications, or geosynthetic liner deployment.
- Assisting with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance on various engineering and construction issues.
- Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.
- Complying with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including but not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
- Completing training on assigned tasks.
- Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
- Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules that are conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- ACI Field Technician Level 1.
- GSWCC (NPDES) Level 1B (Red) Certified Inspector.
- ICC or NICET Soils, Asphalt, Reinforced Concrete certifications.
- GDOT: Roadway Testing Technician (RTT).
- OSHA 10, 30, 40 etc. certifications.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Geosystems).
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
