Texas FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Intern | Caterpillar Inc.

The Tone:
This is a paid, part-time internship at Caterpillar Inc., located in Seguin, Schertz, and San Antonio, Texas. Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives. This two-year opportunity within the Texas FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program prepares individuals to become full-time Maintenance Technicians. Interns will contribute to building diesel engines and developing green energy solutions, helping to create stronger, more sustainable communities.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Learn manufacturing maintenance technician skills to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assembly and material handling equipment and prepare for a career in engine manufacturing.
• Tech Stack: CMMS, fork trucks, conveyors, robotic equipment

What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintain: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assembly equipment following work orders and technical documentation, with supervision.
• Service: Respond to service requests and work orders under direct supervision.
• Operate: Learn to operate and maintain equipment such as fork trucks, conveyors, robotic equipment, and related tools.
• Develop: Acquire strong electrical and mechanical fundamental knowledge relevant to a manufacturing facility.
• Improve: Practice manufacturing core exercises and learn to submit and assist with resolving Continuous Improvement cards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Acceptance into the Texas FAME AMT program for Fall 2026 Semester and college readiness.
• Experience: Basic understanding of skills required to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a manufacturing facility.
• Skills: Proficient critical thinking, good communication skills, and working knowledge of proper safety equipment use.
• Bonus: Successful completion of STEM coursework, general understanding of robotics technology and related systems, understanding of lockout/tagout procedures, experience with basic hand and power tools in an industrial setting, strong understanding of mechanical theory (bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors), mechanical knowledge of basic machines, pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components, equipment alignment, and knowledge of all phases of cutting and welding.
