Role Overview: Communications & Press Intern

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join the Alliance for American Leadership as a volunteer, remote Communications & Press Intern. The intern will play a supportive yet crucial role in amplifying A4AL’s message and initiatives, working closely with the team to manage both external and internal communications efforts.

Key Responsibilities

The Communications & Press Intern will assist in a variety of tasks vital to the organization’s outreach and messaging, including:

• Assisting in the creation and strategic distribution of press releases and other external-facing media materials to key stakeholders and news outlets.
• Supporting the management and execution of broader strategic communications plans to promote A4AL’s mission and policy positions.
• Drafting a range of written materials, which may include policy briefs, talking points, website content, social media posts, and other impactful content.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of effective internal communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging and engagement within the organization.
• Aiding in the development and dissemination of public-facing messaging to clearly articulate the organization’s initiatives and advocacy points.
• Engaging with various audiences through different communication channels to build support and awareness for A4AL’s work.

Qualifications

We are seeking a motivated individual with the following skills and attributes:

• Proficiency in Communication and Strategic Communications: Demonstrated ability to convey messages clearly, concisely, and persuasively across different platforms.
• Experience Creating Press Releases: Proven ability to draft compelling press releases and other external communication materials.
• Strong Writing Skills: Excellent command of grammar, style, and structure to develop clear, impactful, and audience-appropriate content.
• Familiarity with Internal Communications: Understanding of best practices for fostering effective communication within an organization.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to work, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks.
• Ability to Work Independently: Capable of managing tasks and meeting deadlines effectively in a remote work environment with minimal supervision.
• Interest in U.S. Foreign Policy and Global Development: A genuine passion for or understanding of these fields is a significant advantage and will enhance engagement with the organization’s mission.
• Educational Background: Pursuing or holding a degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, or a closely related field is preferred.
