Job Description: IT Operations Intern (Summer 2026)
The Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Research IT Department (RITD) is actively seeking a highly motivated Student Intern for the upcoming Summer 2026 semester. This Intern will join our IT Operations Team and provide crucial assistance with research project work throughout the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS).
As an Intern, you will work in a collaborative environment, primarily managing helpdesk ticket systems. You will be responsible for providing IT support to ELSYS employees and assisting researchers and engineers with diverse projects. This role offers valuable exposure to various IT domains, including virtualization, DevOps practices, Linux operating systems, scripting, and server infrastructure.
Required Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this Intern position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or a similar area of study:
- Information Technology
- Computer Information Systems
- Information Systems
- Information Security Assurance
- Systems Engineering
- Computer Science
- Applied Computer Science
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit.
- Demonstrate an interest in learning IT operations, including but not limited to system administration/deployment, networking, software troubleshooting, and security.
- Possess basic familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems, various types of computer hardware, and networking concepts.
- Exhibit a passion for technology and a strong desire to grow as an IT professional.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications will be highly regarded:
- Previous task or team leadership experience.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical ideas.
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems is considered a significant plus.
Employment Details
- Hours per Week: 40 hours per week
- U.S. Citizenship Requirements: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
- Clearance Type Required: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
- Housing and Relocation: Housing and relocation assistance are not available for this position.
