Internship Coordinator – Project Restore Brownsville

Program Overview: Project Restore Brownsville is a vital community-based initiative focused on violence intervention and prevention. This program is specifically designed to support young individuals identified as being at an elevated risk of involvement in gun violence. It achieves its mission by integrating a multi-faceted approach including intensive case management, dedicated mentoring, trauma-informed group work, and crucial workforce development opportunities. The ultimate goal is to stabilize participants, significantly reduce violent behavior, and foster long-term positive life outcomes. Project Restore acts as an enhancement to existing BIVO (Brownsville In Violence Out) efforts, aiming to strengthen continuity of care, supervision, and participant engagement across various systems.

Position Overview: What the Internship Coordinator Does

The Internship Coordinator plays a crucial role in empowering Project Restore Brownsville participants by developing, coordinating, and supporting meaningful internship and workforce exposure opportunities. This position involves building strong relationships with local community partners and employers to create a network of opportunities, while also thoroughly preparing participants for successful engagement in structured work-based learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
    • Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information.
    • Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident, and incident reporting.
  • Partnership Development & Opportunity Identification:
    • Develop and maintain robust partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and institutions to establish diverse internship placements.
    • Proactively identify internship opportunities that align with participant interests, strengths, and readiness levels, ensuring a personalized and effective match.
  • Participant Preparation & Support:
    • Conduct comprehensive workplace readiness assessments for participants prior to placement to gauge their preparedness and identify areas for development.
    • Prepare participants thoroughly for internships through structured orientation sessions, clear expectations setting, and essential soft skills coaching.
    • Coordinate internship schedules meticulously and ensure participants consistently meet required hours and expectations set by the program and host sites.
    • Maintain regular and proactive communication with internship site supervisors to closely monitor participant performance and attendance.
    • Provide ongoing, responsive support and effective troubleshooting for participants throughout their internship placements, addressing any challenges promptly.
    • Address attendance, conduct, or performance issues collaboratively with mentors and case managers to ensure constructive resolution and support participant growth.
    • Ensure that all internship placements are safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Career Development & Progression:
    • Facilitate engaging career exploration activities and provide exposure to a wide range of different career pathways, broadening participants’ horizons.
    • Assist participants with crucial professional development tasks such as resume building, navigating job applications, and enhancing overall professional skill development.
    • Support seamless transitions from internships to subsequent employment, further education, or specialized training opportunities.
  • Documentation & Collaboration:
    • Track and document all internship participation, progress, and outcomes diligently to measure program effectiveness and participant success.
    • Collaborate closely with Case Managers and Peer Advocates to ensure internship participation is strategically aligned with individual service plans, maximizing impact.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and operations of Project Restore Brownsville.
