Job Summary

FlightAware, the world’s leading aviation software platform, processes over 300+ million incoming messages an hour (more than 5 terabytes a day!) to provide the best, most complete, and most accurate real-time flight tracking service.
FlightAware is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join their highly collaborative, ambitious, and future-reaching organization. As an intern, you will be a full team member, working on complex problems, advancing your skills, and contributing to a safer, more connected world. While aviation enthusiasm is a plus, the primary requirement is excitement to learn. FlightAware champions intellectual curiosity, openness, and industry-leading technical innovation, investing in excellent internal tooling and engineering support.
This is a full-time internship, scheduled for May/June – August 2026 (approximately 12 weeks).
What You Will Do
• Work on a focused project designed to teach you the fundamentals of the software development lifecycle and allow you to make a meaningful contribution.
• Develop new and innovative technology in an agile environment to solve interesting problems.
• Collaborate with technical minds in building software products, leveraging advanced technology, researching groundbreaking concepts, and influencing new ideas to transform the aviation ecosystem.
• Learn alongside industry’s most talented engineers and receive focused mentorship and guidance, working in teams to solve problems and explore new technologies.
• Attend daily team standup meetings and have regular one-on-one check-ins with your leader and mentor.

Qualifications You Must Have
• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

Qualifications We Prefer
• Academic and/or prior work experience with programming languages, including functional languages.
• Completed coursework in core computer science concepts such as object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
• An obsession with writing elegant, high-quality, well-tested code; ideally in languages such as Rust, Go, & Python.
• Ability to analyze complex issues, reason, think critically, and synthesize information.
• Flexible mindset and demonstrated ability to grow skillset and work across a robust and varied technology stack.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, embracing open feedback, trusting colleagues, and being driven to execute, deliver, and complete projects independently and efficiently.
Compensation & Benefits
• The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD – 82,000 USD. This is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
