About the Digital Solutions Team

The Digital Solutions team is at the heart of Komatsu’s innovation, responsible for developing and advancing our customer and distributor-facing digital tools. This includes crucial platforms for e-commerce, telematics, and service and support digital solutions. We leverage the latest technologies to deliver vital data, actionable insights, and value-added applications that empower our customers and distributors. This team collaborates extensively with various departments, including IT, Products, Service, and Solutions, as well as our extensive North American distributor network.

Role Overview: Intern, Digital Solutions

As an Intern, Digital Solutions, you will play a crucial role in enhancing Komatsu’s digital offerings. You will be a key contributor to a dynamic team, directly impacting how our customers and distributors interact with our advanced construction equipment and services. This internship offers a unique blend of project ownership, hands-on application development, and direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

This 10-week internship will challenge you with a variety of tasks and provide significant learning opportunities:

  • Telematic Project Ownership: Lead a significant 10-week project focused on telematic offerings. This includes conducting thorough market research and competitor analysis, and presenting your progress and findings to the team and Komatsu C-suite Executives at the internship’s conclusion.
  • Digital Solution Enhancement: Support the Digital Solutions team by contributing to project work that significantly improves the functionality and user experience of our e-commerce, telematics, and service and support digital applications.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Develop accurate reports, data, and metrics to understand system usage, identify efficiencies, and pinpoint areas for improvement within our digital solutions.
  • Business Immersion: Gain a deep understanding of the Komatsu business model, how we partner with our distributors, and our approach to customer service. Learn about our proprietary technologies and our continuous pursuit of innovation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal partners such as Marketing Communication, Service, IT, and other Komatsu departments and subsidiaries, including our parent company, Komatsu Limited in Japan.
  • Operational Support: Assist with daily operational tasks, including managing support tickets and participating in customer/distributor calls.
  • Project Delivery: Take responsibility for completing all Digital Solutions tasks, assignments, and projects efficiently and according to established deadlines.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: Must be at least in Junior standing at an accredited college/university. Preferred majors include Marketing, Communication, or Business Management. A minimum GPA of 3.0+ is required, with a demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge to real-world business challenges.
  • Experience: Prior experience in leadership roles (e.g., work-study programs, school organizations, volunteer initiatives, clubs, teams, professional organizations) is preferred.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, manage deadlines, and easily adapt to new challenges and business environments.
    • Strong motivation to make significant contributions to Komatsu and drive results.
    • People Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with distributors and customers.
    • Initiative: A proactive approach to identifying needs and taking action.
    • Creative: Capable of finding and developing implementable solutions.
  • PC Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including Pivot Tables) and PowerPoint (for slide presentations). Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Data Retrieval and Data Analytics Skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to complete competitor research and market research.
  • Travel: Some travel may be required, including opportunities to visit dealer sites to explain offerings and gather insights into their digital solution needs.

Compensation: This internship offers a competitive wage of $21/hour.
