Finance Intern

Job Purpose:

The Finance Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the company’s financial operations by assisting with the financial reporting process and contributing to valuable data analysis. This position is designed to enhance the company’s business planning initiatives. Key responsibilities include aiding in self-audits for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, meticulously creating documentation for procedures, and providing comprehensive support across various accounting tasks. Furthermore, the intern will actively engage with employees across departments to gain deeper business insights and participate in special projects as required.

  • Assist with Financial Reporting Process: Support the finance team in preparing accurate financial statements and comprehensive reports by gathering and organizing relevant data.
  • Assist with Data Analysis: Help analyze complex financial data to identify critical trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement, thereby contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Participate in the Company’s Business Planning Process: Engage actively in the business planning process by contributing insightful perspectives and assisting in the development of robust financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Assist in the Performance of Company Self-Audits for Sarbanes-Oxley: Aid in conducting thorough self-audits to ensure strict compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, helping to identify and implement improvements in internal controls.
  • Create Documentation to Evidence Executed Procedures: Prepare and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation of financial procedures and processes to provide irrefutable evidence of executed tasks and ongoing compliance.
  • Meet with Employees to Gain Business Perspective and Acumen: Collaborate and interact with various departments to gain invaluable insights into business operations and their financial impacts, enhancing overall business acumen.
  • Participate in Special Projects as Requested: Take part in special finance-related projects as assigned by management, providing essential support and contributing effectively to project goals.
  • Attendance: Maintain regular attendance and active participation in team meetings to ensure effective collaboration and productivity within the finance department.

Supervisory Responsibility:

No supervisory responsibilities.

  • Shift: Day
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 Hours

Qualifications/Characteristics:

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Analytical Skills: Possess strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a proven ability to interpret complex financial data and identify key trends.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of financial reporting and documentation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with financial software or ERP systems is a significant plus.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members and other departments.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about financial issues and challenges to devise effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute positively to group dynamics and collective goals.
  • Initiative: Exhibit a self-motivated and proactive approach to work, with a strong willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
  • Basic Understanding of Financial Principles: Familiarity with basic financial principles and concepts, such as accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Working Conditions:

This role operates primarily in an office environment. Duties are performed indoors, characterized by moderate to quiet noise levels and comfortable temperatures. The intern will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Some flexibility may allow for a portion of the work to be performed remotely.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally positions self to move an office item weighing more than 10 lbs.
  • Frequently moves about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time.
  • Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc.
