About the NextGen IT Administration & Secure System Operations Internship

Interns will benefit from a dedicated full-time mentor and will be fully embedded with the NextGen team, gaining invaluable real-world experience while contributing to meaningful, impactful projects.

Key Internship Activities May Include:

  • Assisting with core IT administration duties within a secure room environment, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Supporting user account management and rigorous system access control processes.
  • Performing routine system monitoring and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Helping to troubleshoot and resolve IT hardware and software issues, developing practical problem-solving skills.
  • Documenting essential IT processes and meticulously maintaining accurate system records.
  • Actively learning and applying cutting-edge cyber management and security best practices in a federal context.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required: Must be able to obtain a U.S. government security clearance. NextGen will sponsor the clearance process for qualified candidates.
  • Academic Enrollment: Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior pursuing a degree in:
    • Management Information Systems (MIS)
    • Cybersecurity
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Or a closely related technical field.
  • Preferred Concentrations: Concentrations in cybersecurity or cyber management are a significant plus.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Job Details at a Glance:

  • Location: Dayton, OH. While the internship offers a hybrid model, we are primarily recruiting for an in-person candidate to maximize hands-on experience and mentorship.
  • Duration: A Year+ internship is preferred, fostering deeper learning and contribution.
  • Expected Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week, offering flexibility to accommodate your academic schedule.
