2027 Winter Internship Opportunities – Doeren Mayhew

Doeren Mayhew, the 46th largest CPA and advisory firm, is offering comprehensive Winter Internship Opportunities for aspiring accounting professionals. This hands-on program aims to provide real-world accounting experience, allowing interns to work alongside seasoned industry professionals and engage with challenging accounting and business norms.

Internship Period:
The winter internships will run from January 5, 2027, until no later than April 15, 2027.

Work Schedule:
Interns typically work 40-55 hours per week, including Saturdays.

Available Service Groups:
Interns can select from four (4) specialized service groups during their initial interview:

1. Corporate Audit Intern
2. Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Audit Intern
3. Domestic Tax Intern
4. International Tax Intern

Detailed Service Group Descriptions:

1. Corporate Audit Intern
This internship offers a deep dive into public accounting through a hands-on experience.

Training: The first two weeks include a comprehensive training program focusing on audit software utilization and understanding audit procedures.
Experience: Interns will work closely with seasoned audit professionals, including principals, and their responsibilities and experiences will mirror those of first-year audit associates.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with numerous engagement teams, including Principals, Managers, Associates, and other interns, to complete audits, reviews, and compilations for clients.
• Gain exposure to 8-12 client engagements across diverse industries such as manufacturing, construction, non-profit, auto dealership, retail, and hospitality.
• Travel to client sites to perform audit engagements.
• Compile and analyze financial information.
• Test and document business transactions.
• Prepare and review financial statements.

2. Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Audit Intern

Training: The first week includes a hands-on training program covering audit software and procedures.
Experience: Interns will work closely with seasoned audit professionals, including principals, gaining responsibilities and experiences similar to those of first-year audit associates.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work on numerous engagement teams with Principals, Managers, Associates, and other interns to complete audits, reviews, and compilations.
• Gain exposure to 8-12 financial institution client engagements, specifically focusing on credit unions and community banks.
• Travel to client sites to perform audit engagements.
• Compile and analyze financial information.
• Test and document business transactions.
• Prepare and review financial statements.

3. Domestic Tax Intern
This internship provides practical exposure to domestic tax preparation and procedures.

Training: A two-week hands-on training program will teach interns to utilize tax software programs and develop an understanding of tax procedures.
Experience: Interns will work closely with seasoned tax professionals, including principals, and their responsibilities will be similar to those of first-year tax associates.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work with a variety of tax Principals, Managers, Associates, and other interns on diverse tax returns.
• Assist with the preparation of corporate and individual tax returns, including personal property, partnerships, C-Corp, and S-Corp returns.
• Gain exposure to tax returns in various industries, including manufacturing, construction, non-profit, auto dealership, retail, and restaurant.
• Conduct tax research and work on tax projections using data from audit staff or clients.

4. International Tax Intern
This specialized internship focuses on the complexities of international tax.

Training: A two-week hands-on training program will cover tax software utilization and international tax procedures.
Experience: Interns will work closely with seasoned tax professionals, including principals, gaining responsibilities similar to those of first-year tax associates.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work with a variety of Principals, Managers, Associates, and other interns on diverse international tax returns.
• Assist with the preparation of foreign disclosures and corporate returns for inbound and outbound companies.
• Assist with individual tax returns and foreign disclosures for cross-border employees.
• Conduct research and engage in ongoing collaboration with the international tax team members.
• Work on a variety of industries and a wide range of projects beyond standard tax preparation.

Qualifications for All Opportunities:

Education: Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting.
Coursework: Completion of at least one intermediate accounting course by Winter 2027 is preferred.
GPA: A minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative and in accounting major) is required.
Availability: Ability to take off winter semester classes (January through mid-April) and work 40+ hours per week is preferred.
Work Experience: Work experience (related or unrelated to accounting) is preferred.
Career Drive: Strong drive and motivation to pursue a career in public accounting.
Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to take initiative via work experience and/or extracurricular activities.
Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Time Management: Proven time management skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Attitude: High degree of curiosity, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm.
