Job Title: Alliance for the Public’s Health Intern
Organization: The American Public Health Association (APHA) – Alliance for the Public’s Health
Location: Washington, D.C. (US-based internship with hybrid or remote options available)
Compensation: Unpaid
About the Alliance for the Public’s Health:
Established by the American Public Health Association (APHA) in 2020, the Alliance for the Public’s Health is a broad collaboration of public health and healthcare organizations, business groups, the faith community, non-profits, philanthropies, and other key stakeholder groups.
• Vision: A resilient, equitable, and healthy nation supported by a robust public health system that is empowered to protect against societal health threats and respond to the unique health needs of every community.
• Mission: To build and empower a diverse, collaborative, multi-sector, sustainable public health movement with clearly defined roles, authority, and resources to ensure health, equity, and well-being for all.
The Alliance is engaged in a variety of grant-funded projects, including initiatives focused on building the capacity of health departments to collaborate with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and cross-sectoral partners, as well as a workforce development project with Public Health AmeriCorps.
Internship Focus:
Intern(s) will play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of the Alliance’s work, with a particular emphasis on general Alliance activities, including communications and programmatic components.
Key Responsibilities:
Interns are expected to have the ability and interest in:
• Assisting with the development of various Alliance materials.
• Researching and learning about emerging public health topics.
• Capturing key insights and lessons from meetings.
• Coordinating and managing meeting logistics.
• Providing logistical support for the 2025 Policy Action Institute.
• Developing newsletters and other communications materials to disseminate information.
• Contributing to the maintenance of the resource library navigator (PHERN) and map by:
• Conducting research to identify relevant public health, equity, preparedness, or COVID-19 resources for inclusion.
• Helping to determine optimal display methods for information and resources.
• Providing timely information on areas of interest to Alliance members, stakeholders, and the broader public health field.
• Contributing to grant-funded project activities, which may include, but are not limited to, conducting policy scans, organizing webinars, developing best practices guides, and facilitating focus groups.
• All APHA interns also contribute to the Association’s “Get Ready” campaign, which involves writing blog posts and participating in group projects each semester.
Qualifications:
The Alliance typically offers one or two internship positions per semester to qualified students. We are seeking individuals who are:

• Comfortable working as part of a team
Preferred Experience (a plus):
• Experience with deadlines.
• Ability to translate evidence-based information into lay language.
• Experience with social media platforms and website management.
Internship Duration and Commitment:
• Opportunities are available during the summer semester.
• Internships typically last for a three- to four-month period.
• Interns are required to work a minimum of 21 hours per week to maximize their experience.
• Start and end times are negotiable.
