The Role: A&R Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as an Unpaid Remote A&R Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the core functions of an independent record label. You will play a crucial role in discovering new talent, supporting artist careers, and contributing to the strategic direction of our roster. This position is ideal for someone looking to immerse themselves in the independent music scene and build foundational skills in A&R.

Key Responsibilities

As an A&R Intern, your daily tasks and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting directly with Artist Development initiatives, helping to shape artists’ careers and creative direction.
  • Proactively engaging in Music Scouting and talent identification, seeking out promising artists across various platforms and genres.
  • Maintaining strong, collaborative Artist Relationships, ensuring clear communication and support for our roster.
  • Conducting in-depth Research into Music Trends, industry shifts, and emerging artists to inform A&R strategy.
  • Evaluating Demos and submissions from artists, providing constructive feedback and identifying potential additions to our roster.
  • Coordinating with Artists on various projects, schedules, and promotional activities.
  • Supporting broader Marketing Efforts for artists and releases, contributing to promotional campaigns and outreach.
  • Efficiently Managing Music Databases and artist information, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Participating in the process of Creating Proposals for new projects, partnerships, and artist agreements.
  • Conducting Meetings with Prospects (potential artists, collaborators, industry partners) to explore new opportunities.

Qualifications & What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A strong understanding of, or prior experience in, key areas such as Music Publishing, Performance Rights, and Sync Placements.
  • Demonstrable skills or a keen interest in Artist Development, Management, and Sound Recordings.
  • Proficiency in Market Research techniques and proven abilities in Artist Scouting.
  • Exceptional Communication and Organizational Skills, vital for coordinating with artists and internal teams.
  • The ability to Create Proposals and articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Confidence and professionalism when Conducting Meetings with Prospects.
  • A self-starter mentality with the Ability to Work Independently and Remotely, managing your time effectively.
  • An undeniable Passion for Music and a genuine Commitment to Industry Growth.
  • Prior experience or internships within the music industry are a significant advantage, but not strictly required.
