Job Description: Long-term Internship within Operation Technology (OT) Support

Xcel Energy is offering an exciting long-term internship opportunity within its Operation Technology (OT) Support organization. This unique position provides direct access to work with the IT-OT Modernization (NSP/SPS – EMS Team), offering the successful candidate significant insight and exposure to SCADA EMS construction project work.

Key Details of the Internship:
• Duration: This internship is designed for an 18-month period.
• Work Hours: Interns will work 20-40 hours weekly, accommodating both full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).
• Start Date: The position is scheduled to begin in May 2026.
• Extension Possibility: Based on successful performance and Xcel’s business needs, there is a possibility to extend beyond the initial 18-month term.

What You Will Learn and Do:
Over the course of the internship, the selected candidate will gain valuable experience and develop skills for a technical understanding of SCADA systems and EMS architecture. Key responsibilities and learning areas include:
• Working on specific requirements within the EMS DB Team.
• Providing support with construction project implementation.
• Assisting with daily tasks and needs of both the Transmission Operations and Commercial Operations teams.

Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Current Student Status: Must be a Sophomore or Junior level student only.
• Academic Enrollment: Enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Field of Study: Pursuing a degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, engineering, mathematics, analytics, or business.
• Commuting Ability: Able to commute to one of the following Xcel Energy operational centers: 414 Nicollet Mall, MN, Denver, CO, or Amarillo Operation center, TX.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
• Work Ethic & Soft Skills: Demonstrates a strong work ethic and initiative, ability to work well in a team environment, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and possesses better organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Academic Standing: A high academic standing, specifically a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Compensation and Benefits:
• Anticipated Starting Base Pay: The hourly pay for this position ranges from $17.00 to $27.20 per hour.
