Job Description
About Company: Immobileyes
Immobileyes is a start-up company dedicated to developing innovative laser-based security devices. Their core technology utilizes multiple low-power lasers to cause temporary visual disruption, offering a new non-lethal tool for deterring intruders and potentially aggressive individuals.
Their product line will include a handheld unit (planned for 2022 launch), with future developments for drone and wall-mounted versions. Immobileyes targets multiple markets, including home/commercial security, law enforcement, and the military.
The company is based in Kent and is currently housed within AlphaMicron, a technology R&D company with a 22-year track record of innovation, particularly for the US Air Force, and known for developing the world’s first electronically switchable eyewear.
Immobileyes’ ground-breaking laser technology has been described by DoD technology scouts as “unique” and something the military, law enforcement, and Homeland Security can use “Right Now.” The company aims to up-end the traditional security model of detection and response by introducing INTERVENTION before Police arrive, providing a safer non-lethal option compared to current alternatives.
Job Description: Product Engineer / Manager
Immobileyes is seeking a technical/engineering-minded leader to spearhead the product development. The ideal candidate is an electrical, mechanical, or similar engineer with experience in product/industrial design. This role is heavily development-focused, requiring the individual to design and build the product, take the lead in finding suppliers, and eventually lead a small team of engineers to execute different product versions (e.g., wall-mounted, handheld, drone-mounted). While parts of the prototype are complete, the Product Engineer/Manager, as the primary technical leader, will have significant leeway to guide the technical direction of the product based on customer feedback.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Product design & planning: Managing, planning, and coordinating the development of new products, enhancements to existing ones, and technical solutions based on customer feedback.
• Requirements Definition: Gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, and defining the overall product vision.
• Customer Engagement: Communicating directly with US armed forces and law enforcement personnel to understand needs.
• Scientific Collaboration: Meeting and working closely with the scientific (laser) team; planning and coordinating tests to ensure the system’s safety and effectiveness.
• Engineering Collaboration & Roadmapping: Working closely with the engineering team to deliver winning products; determining roadmaps and deadlines for new products and enhancements while considering priority, customer needs, financial limitations, staffing, and resource availability.
• Commercial Strategy: Developing sales forecasts and implementing pricing schedules aimed at revenue and margin growth while maintaining market competitiveness.
Candidate Requirements:
• Education: A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree is required, with an Engineering or Science Degree strongly preferred.
• Experience: 4+ years of experience in a similar or comparable role.
• Specific Experience: Experience developing engineered/scientific products is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience/exposure to optics or lasers, or possess hands-on electronic engineering experience.
• Skills: Strong written, oral, and presentation skills are essential.
Cultural Fit Requirements:
To align with the company’s culture, candidates must demonstrate:
• A strong work ethic combined with a willingness to tackle unprecedented challenges through inventiveness, creativity, and strong technical knowledge.
• An understanding of the distinction between productive failure and excuses.
• A sense of urgency in delivering results.
• The ability to thrive in the dynamic environment of a startup.
• A palpable desire to deliver a high-quality product and provide significant value to the customer.
• Comfort in a team-oriented atmosphere where individual performance and compensation are linked to overall company and team performance.
• A consistent desire to improve, reach further, think deeply, and learn from colleagues.
• Passion for the work.
• Willingness to embrace and uphold a culture of respect, communication, and accountability.
In Return, You Can Expect:
• Full-time salary with full benefits, and/or
• Equity in the company (based on prior experience).
