Job Description, Detailed

This is an NNP (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner) Intern position at Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital (VVWH) 9 East and 9 West Birthing Center, and for neonatal patients in the Brandon NICU on 8 W and the expansion unit (10 West). This educational program is designed for current Registered Nurses who have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty. It aims to prepare the intern for their new role as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner by teaching a wide range of skills and knowledge.

Key Goals of the Program:
• Provide the highest quality patient and family-centered care.
• Facilitate communication among multidisciplinary care providers.
• Increase educational opportunities for house staff and medical students.
• Innovate care of the newborn in the Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

Responsibilities (All performed under the direct supervision of a licensed Neonatal Nurse Practitioner):
• Coordinate care for acutely ill neonates in intensive care and acute care unit settings.
• Present pertinent patient data to the medical staff.
• Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.
• Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care.
• Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care.
• Attend high-risk deliveries and assist with neonatal resuscitation activities.
• Once credentialed and privileged as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, perform procedures and order entry.

Expectations:
• A two-year commitment is required following the completion of orientation.
• The selected candidate will practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for 2 years in the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
• The appointment fraction must be no less than a 0.9-1.0 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent).

Required Qualifications:
• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty.
• All required qualifications must be met prior to the start date of employment.
• A complete and accurate resume is required.

Desired Qualifications:
• Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to function under direct NNP supervision while ensuring smooth and collaborative medical care team functioning.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and communicate as a patient advocate.
• Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities for acute and chronically ill neonates.

Work Schedule:
Hours: 40 per week.
Shift: Day shift, including weekend shifts as required by the service.
Location: C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
• New employees are expected to float to designated units during times of low census based on collective bargaining agreement.
• Positions may be eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work at the discretion of the hiring department, with agreements reviewed annually and subject to change.

Benefits:
Competitive Salary: Hourly range for Registered Nurses is $40.18-$62.31/hour.
Shift Differentials:
• Evening Shift: $3.00/hour
• Night Shift: $4.00/hour
• Day Shift Weekend: $2.90/hour
• Evening Shift Weekend: $5.90/hour
• Night Shift Weekend: $6.90/hour
• Charge Nurse: $1.00/hour
