Fall 2026 Youth Program Intern | International Rescue Committee
The Tone:
This is an unpaid, part-time internship at the International Rescue Committee, located in Clarkston, GA. The International Rescue Committee is a large international humanitarian non-governmental organization, founded in 1933 by Albert Einstein, that responds to global humanitarian crises by helping people survive and rebuild their lives. The Atlanta office has resettled over 30,000 refugees since 1979 and supports thousands more annually. This role is crucial in supporting the Youth Futures Program at Clarkston High School, directly impacting refugee and asylee youth by fostering their academic success and social-emotional development.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Facilitate Program Activities: Support IRC staff in delivering after-school programs, including logistical assistance for activities, field trips, and workshops.
• Cultivate a Supportive Environment: Engage with students to provide an enriching and supportive academic and social environment within the program.
• Provide Academic Tutoring: Assist high school youth with their daily homework and school projects, reinforcing math, science, and English literacy skills.
• Mentor Youth for Future Success: Build mentoring relationships with youth and assist them with college applications, writing resumes, and searching for part-time or summer jobs.
• Manage Program Operations: Provide general administrative support, including documentation, file maintenance, compiling resources, and planning and preparing for Youth Futures events, as well as entering data.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months. Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States, with an interest in international and refugee issues. Candidates must uphold ethical standards, maintain confidentiality, and have a strong desire to help people with enthusiasm and sensitivity for working in a multi-cultural setting. Must pass a background check.
• Experience: Willingness to work one-on-one with students is required. Experience working with youth and/or young adults is preferred, and familiarity with educational support and systems is also preferred.
• Skills: Excellent communication and writing skills, strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while taking initiative within a team are essential. Creativity, computer literacy (preferably with PC systems), and the ability to follow through on projects are also important.
• Bonus: A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are beneficial.
