Vice President, Trade Finance for Financial Institutions – Transaction Banking for Asia | Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group

• Mission: Shape the future of trade finance for financial institutions across Asia Pacific by focusing on origination and execution of complex solutions for banks and NBFIs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Originate & Strategize: Drive origination efforts focused on banks and non-bank financial institutions throughout Asia Pacific, contributing to regional transaction banking revenue targets by identifying new business opportunities and developing actionable sales strategies based on understanding NBFI models and market developments.
• Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of key clients, including sponsors, insurers, asset managers, and public sector FIs, to establish MUFG as a trusted strategic trade finance partner and capture new business.
• Execute Complex Transactions: Originate and execute documentary trade transactions, such as working capital solutions and risk participation deals, aligned with annual revenue growth objectives, ensuring compliance with MUFG policies and regulatory requirements.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with various internal teams including Coverage, Product, Operations, Risk, and Legal, leveraging MUFG’s APAC network to coordinate country teams for seamless cross-border deal execution and client experiences.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Mentor and guide colleagues on trade product insights and market trends, acting as a subject matter expert on NBFI trade solutions within the APAC franchise, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in banking, finance, or a similar field, complemented by substantial experience gained from leading roles within prominent trade finance banks. You possess deep familiarity with NBFI business models, funding structures, regulatory environments, and competitive landscapes.
• Experience: A minimum of 8 years of proven experience in LC issuance or confirmation, guarantees or SBLCs, working capital finance, or structured trade at a leading trade finance bank. This includes a demonstrable track record in trade finance sales with direct exposure to non-bank financial institution coverage across Asia Pacific markets, and successful commercial origination converting client relationships into revenue.
• Skills: Strong credit awareness combined with risk management skills to structure complex transactions within risk appetite, excellent communication and negotiation abilities for dependable relationship management, and the capability to work effectively across cultures in APAC markets. You will also demonstrate a solution-oriented approach with meticulous attention to detail and a collaborative mindset for efficient internal cooperation.
