Undergraduate Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Intern

The Visualization and Decision Support Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students with a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML).

This is a unique opportunity to join our research staff and contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI/ML techniques. Interns will play a crucial role in solving complex problems in computer vision and geospatial understanding for various critical projects.

Key Responsibilities May Include:
Research and Prototyping: Design and develop unique algorithmic solutions primarily in Python, with a strong focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Model Development Support: Assist in the development of machine learning models utilizing industry-standard tools and technologies such as PyTorch, PostgreSQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Docker, and similar platforms.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with diverse teams to seamlessly integrate machine learning models into existing systems and create new ones tailored to specific project requirements.
Agile Development: Operate within an agile development environment, collaborating with other developers, a scrum master, and product owners to effectively scope, develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions.

Who Should Apply:
Students currently pursuing studies in Computer Science, Information Science and Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in AI/ML concepts or projects.
• An active security clearance is a significant advantage.

Work Schedule & Location:
Part-time during Semesters: Up to 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Full-time during Summer: Up to 40 hours per week over the summer break.
• This is a paid internship located at either State College, PA or Reston, VA.
