Temporary Junior Accountant | Smile Train

The Tone:
This is a temporary role at Smile Train, located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, operating under a hybrid model. Smile Train is the world’s leading cleft-focused organization, dedicated to providing free, high-quality, comprehensive cleft care to children in 95+ countries through a sustainable model of training and supporting local medical professionals. This role is crucial in supporting the global finance team during an ERP system conversion, ensuring data accuracy and smooth financial operations that directly contribute to the organization’s mission of changing lives one smile at a time.

• Mission: This person will maintain clean financial records, run essential reports, and assist with data quality control to support global finance operations and an ERP system conversion.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Complex formulas)

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Accounting: Accurately enter, code, and track daily financial transactions, vendor invoices, corporate credit card statements, and employee expense reimbursements.
• Payment Processing: Prepare and set up vendor payments via ACH and wire transfers, and maintain organized digital filing systems for vendor records and tax documentation.
• ERP Conversion Support: Assist with financial data entry, cleaning, record deduplication, and perform quality control checks on migrated data for the system conversion.
• Month-End Close: Perform monthly bank reconciliations, routine general ledger reviews, and assist with basic month-end schedules, including prepaid expenses and AP aging reports.
• Administrative Assistance: Provide administrative support to the finance team by gathering audit schedules, pulling supporting documentation, and executing special data-entry or reporting projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related quantitative field. Career level: Entry-Level.
• Experience: 0-2 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally from a related internship or entry-level role.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Complex formulas); Base understanding of accounting standards and accrual basis accounting concepts.
• Bonus: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical professional with strong organizational and communication skills; eagerness to learn financial processes, clean and organize transactional data, and adapt during system changes.
