The Tone:
This is a Teacher Aide position at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, located across Special Education programs throughout the region, with the primary job location at Finger Lakes Secondary School. Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES provides essential support to students with special education needs across the Finger Lakes area. This role is crucial for delivering hands-on support to students every day, ensuring their well-being and academic assistance, where your direct involvement truly makes a difference.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-time (during school year), Seasonal (with summer option)
• Location: In-person, Finger Lakes Secondary School
• Pay: $16.00–$18.72 hourly
• Mission: Support students across Special Education programs by performing non-instructional duties and assisting with their well-being and learning.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Instruction: Assist classroom teachers by performing non-instructional duties to support students with disabilities individually, in small groups, and during test proctoring.
• Student Supervision: Provide general supervision for students in a multitude of settings including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, and during community-based activities.
• Behavior Management: Assist with classroom management and monitor individual student behavior through crisis intervention, implementing positive behavior management strategies, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and safety plans.
• Personal Care & Mobility: Assist students with self-help and personal care activities, including toileting and mobility, and support them on school buses and during field trips.
• Classroom Preparation: Help with the preparation of classroom materials, projects, demonstrations, and displays, utilizing any special skills to enhance the instructional program as appropriate.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma and meet Civil Service eligibility requirements for a Teacher Aide.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required, but applicants must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members to effectively support all students.
• Skills: Ability to implement positive behavior management strategies and crisis intervention techniques, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI-S); proficient in maintaining student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA; willing to continue ongoing professional development in support of program placement.
