Tax Intern, International Tax Services – Summer 2027 (Boston) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at BDO USA, located in Boston, MA. BDO USA is an organization providing assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and around the world. This role is crucial for supporting clients with cross-border tax matters by applying educational background and organizational skills to research, analysis, and compliance. The intern will become familiar with consulting on international tax issues while taking direction from experienced team members.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Consulting: Assists in advising clients on international tax issues by applying critical thinking and contributing to work plan development.
• Research: Conducts tax research and analysis of various international tax issues, identifies reliable information sources, and assists in preparing Written Tax Advice (WTA).
• Tax Compliance: Assists in obtaining client information and utilizes firm software to prepare international tax compliance forms and US international informational reporting.
• Specialization: Begins to develop an understanding of technical and practical issues in international taxation, exploring potential areas of specialization.
• Collaboration: Coordinates with BDO non-US colleagues across approximately 160 countries to align US tax rules with foreign tax law impacting client transactions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting, Taxation, Master of Laws (LLM) degree, or another relevant field. This is an entry-level position.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team setting, positive attitude and willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions, and a basic understanding of international tax compliance topics like Subpart F income, Earnings and Profits adjustments, and foreign tax credits.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree preferred, J.D. or pursuing credits towards a CPA preferred, leadership experience preferred, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis, and/or Westlaw.
