This Tax Intern role, located in the United States, is crucial for supporting the tax department’s comprehensive compliance and reporting activities. The intern will play an integral part in ensuring accuracy and adherence to complex regulations across federal, state, local, and Canadian tax jurisdictions, contributing directly to the company’s financial integrity and operational efficiency.

• Mission: Support the tax department by assisting with critical compliance, reporting, and research for federal, state, local, and international tax matters, ensuring regulatory accuracy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Return Preparation: Actively assist with the comprehensive preparation of federal, state, local, and Canadian tax returns, including extensions and estimated payments, to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
• Indirect Tax Compliance: Provide essential support for indirect tax compliance processes, encompassing sales/use tax, property tax, and HST/GST filings, contributing to the department’s regulatory obligations.
• Documentation & Reconciliation: Meticulously prepare and reconcile supporting documentation for various book/tax differences, accurate apportionment data, and other critical tax adjustments.
• Tax Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research on complex federal, international, and indirect tax issues, then precisely summarize findings to inform departmental decisions and strategies.
• Audit & Inquiry Support: Aid in preparing necessary documentation for tax audits and formulate responsive communications to inquiries received from various tax authorities, ensuring thorough and clear communication.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a closely related field. This is an entry-level position designed for students seeking practical, hands-on experience in corporate taxation.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in computer literacy, specifically within Microsoft Office applications, with a strong emphasis on excellent Excel skills, including the ability to utilize pivot tables and macros effectively for data analysis and reporting.
• Skills: Possesses strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities. The candidate should also exhibit a clear capacity to quickly learn and apply new tools and concepts, demonstrating a positive, proactive attitude and the initiative to take on new tasks, while being adept at both independent work and collaborative team environments.
• Bonus: Familiarity with SAP systems or OneSource tax software is considered a valuable advantage, demonstrating a readiness to adapt to industry-standard tax technology.
