Switchboard Operator | Frye Regional Medical Center
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Frye Regional Medical Center, situated in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina. Frye Regional Medical Center operates as a comprehensive healthcare institution, featuring a 355-bed acute care hospital alongside an 81-bed Behavioral Health facility. Our extensive network also includes over 70 primary and specialty care providers, all dedicated to serving the North Carolina community with robust healthcare services. As a Full-Time Switchboard Operator, you will function as the indispensable primary point of contact for all incoming and in-house calls, playing a critical and central role within the facility’s communication hub. This position is vital for maintaining clear, swift, and accurate information flow across the entire medical center, directly supporting patient care and operational efficiency.

• Mission: To serve as the primary communication point for all incoming and in-house calls, managing critical information flow and emergency responses within the medical facility.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Communication Hub Management: Efficiently receive and accurately direct all incoming external calls to the correct house extensions or patient rooms, while also managing and routing calls originating from within the hospital to ensure seamless internal communication.
• Emergency Response Coordination: Act as the primary responder for all emergency calls and pages, promptly activating necessary codes and swiftly contacting the appropriate medical and support personnel as dictated by critical situations.
• Paging and Information Dissemination: Execute a full range of paging operations, including in-house paging, dial-a-page system management, and intercom announcements, alongside providing general information to both internal staff and external callers.
• Critical Information & Records Management: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date Switchboard files, which encompass current patient room numbers, new admissions, discharged patient statuses, and critical employee information vital for disaster procedures and operational readiness.
• After-Hours On-Call Coordination: During evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, proactively manage and relay messages to on-call personnel as requested by the Nursing Supervisor, using paging, beeping, or direct calls to ensure continuous support and response capability.

• Background: Early career professional with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision in a high-stress environment, exercising critical thinking and decisive judgment.
• Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, independent operation, stress management, effective communication.
• Bonus: Associate’s degree.
