Supply Chain Manager, Returnable Packaging Programs | Tesla
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Tesla. The company’s Service Packaging Engineering team develops packaging solutions for its global service and parts distribution network. This role is crucial as it establishes a new, critical function focused on returnable packaging, which supports Tesla’s sustainability and cost optimization goals. As the founding owner of this program, this individual will manage the entire lifecycle of returnable container fleets, blending strategic vision with operational execution.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage: Own end-to-end management of all returnable packaging fleets, including totes, racks, dunnage, and custom containers.
• Model: Develop and maintain fleet sizing models to track inventory, utilization, and return loop performance, while executing cycle counting programs for fleet accuracy.
• Procure: Identify and drive rebuys based on fleet attrition, damage rates, and program growth, coordinating sourcing and justifying purchases.
• Design: Design and manage network strategy and reverse logistics flows to recover containers from various locations across the network.
• Analyze: Develop business cases and ROI models for returnable packaging investments, including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis, for CapEx approval.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience demonstrating exceptional ability.
• Experience: 3-5 years in supply chain (planning/procurement), packaging operations, logistics, or process-critical operations; experience managing returnable, reusable, or closed-loop packaging fleets, including tracking, cycle counting, repair, and rebuy planning; familiarity with service parts logistics, packaging engineering, warehousing operations, or aftermarket/automotive supply chains.
• Skills: Analytics-savvy with strong working knowledge of ERP, WMS, TMS, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI to translate data into clear operational recommendations; strong judgment, ability to build structure in ambiguous environments, manage competing priorities, and interact professionally with stakeholders while operating at both detailed and strategic levels.
• Bonus: PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
