Job Description:

The Village of Oak Park is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students for two (2) Engineering Internship positions within our 2026 Summer Seasonal Student Employment program. This is an exceptional opportunity for aspiring civil engineers to gain invaluable, real-life experience and apply their academic knowledge in a practical, professional setting.

Interns will be an integral part of our engineering team, working under the direct instruction and supervision of experienced civil engineers. This immersive experience is designed to familiarize students with the daily tasks and responsibilities of a field Civil Engineer, fostering both technical skills and professional development.

Key Learning Areas and Responsibilities:

During this internship, participants will become proficient in, and contribute to, a variety of essential engineering tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Construction and Sidewalk Condition Inspections: Participate in evaluating and documenting the status of infrastructure projects and existing sidewalks.
  • Data Collection and Entry: Assist in gathering, organizing, and inputting crucial data for various engineering projects.
  • Surveying: Learn and apply fundamental surveying techniques in the field.
  • CAD Drafting: Develop skills in computer-aided design for creating and modifying engineering plans and drawings.
  • GIS Mapping: Gain hands-on experience with Geographic Information System applications for spatial data management and analysis.
  • Other Engineering Related Work: Engage in a broad spectrum of activities that support the daily operations and projects of the Civil Engineering department.
