Accounting/Finance Summer Intern (Topeka, KS) 2027 | BNSF Railway

The Tone:
This is an internship at BNSF Railway, located in Topeka, KS. BNSF Railway is one of the largest U.S. railroads, responsible for transporting the nation’s freight across 28 western states and 3 Canadian provinces. The company plays a crucial role in supporting the movement of essential products and materials that nourish, clothe, supply, and power communities throughout America and globally. This intern will gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, contributing to real, impactful projects and laying the foundation for a successful career in finance within the freight transportation industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reporting: Prepare internal and external reports, and perform account reconciliations.
• Research: Conduct contract research and maintain confidential information securely.
• Support: Assist in testing system changes and enhancements, and handle ad-hoc requests.
• Relationships: Build strong customer, employee, and business partner relationships through issue resolution and continuous improvement while maintaining business integrity.
• Project Participation: Engage in opportunities offering exposure and placement to areas such as Payroll Services, Revenue Management, or Technology Management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Legally authorized to work in the United States and be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire, without requiring BNSF’s assistance for employment authorization now or in the future. Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university, and have less than three years of professional work experience, excluding internships or part-time jobs held while pursuing a degree.
• Experience: Will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
• Skills: Possess leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
• Bonus: Has or intends to pursue a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. Has or has held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
