This is a detailed description for the Summer 2026 Analytics & Quantitative Modeling Internship at KeyBank.
Job Title: Summer 2026 Analytics & Quantitative Modeling Internship
Location: 127 Public Square, Cleveland Ohio
Internship Program Overview:
KeyBank’s Enterprise Internship is a 10.5-week in-person program designed to provide interns with meaningful work, comprehensive feedback and coaching, and engaging events to foster interest in a full-time career at KeyBank. Interns will be involved in line-of-business specific projects that directly impact Key’s business and strategic pillars. The program includes extensive networking opportunities with teammates across all organizational levels, a series of “Learning Labs” featuring internal and external speakers on topics such as Key’s competitive landscape, financial wellness, and professional development, and an assigned mentor to provide knowledge, experience, and advice.
Analytics & Quantitative Modeling Department Overview:
This department at KeyBank is a cross-functional collective focused on leveraging data, analytics, and quantitative models to significantly impact business performance. Its shared goal is to identify solutions that lead to more effective risk management, more profitable business decisions, more meaningful client and employee engagements, and more proactive management of credit relationships.
About The Analytics & Quantitative Modeling Internship Program:
This specific internship program is tailored to develop analytical and quantitative professionals through targeted training, practical work experiences, and cross-functional exposure. The program is based in Cleveland, Ohio, and interns are typically assigned to a specific placement area within Analytics & Quantitative Modeling for the duration of their internship.
Job Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to:
• Perform data analysis, conduct research, and derive business and financial insights with integrity and accuracy.
• Effectively and concisely communicate findings and recommendations to senior management, including the use of effective data visualizations.
• Apply analytical and mathematical techniques to solve problems across a broad spectrum of business and risk management areas.
• Conduct and utilize market and industry research for peer analytics and strategic insights.
• Develop and support reporting functions necessary for financial, regulatory, and business intelligence requirements.
Potential Internship Placement Areas:
Interns may be placed in one of the following specialized areas:
• Quantitative Modeling and Advanced Analytics (QMAA): Focuses on developing predictive models for risk management, capital, and business insights, supporting credit relationship decisions from prospecting to portfolio management.
• Model Risk: Responsible for assessing enterprise-wide predictive models to ensure suitability, intended performance, and reliability for decision-making.
• Market Risk: Helps price financial instruments and quantify market loss risks associated with KeyBank’s trading activities, including fixed income securities and derivatives.
• Client & Employee Experience: Applies analytics, visualization, and storytelling to survey and vendor data to enhance client experiences.
• Commercial Analytics: Addresses evolving payment solutions for businesses, from streamlining receivables and payables to managing liquidity.
• Fraud Analytics: Utilizes modeling and advanced analytics (Machine Learning and Network Analysis) for enterprise-wide fraud detection and prevention.
• Credit Portfolio Management: Combines external macroeconomic, industry, and geopolitical research with internal portfolio analytics to identify and mitigate emerging risks in KeyBank’s credit portfolio.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Education: Must have completed at least three years of a four-year undergraduate degree program with coursework in mathematics, statistics, engineering, finance, economics, computer science, business analytics, data science, or other quantitative fields. Anticipated graduation must be in or before May 2027.
• Academic Achievement: A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3 is required.
• Experience: Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities from past work experience and/or extracurricular activities.
• Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills are essential.
• Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of statistical techniques, machine learning approaches, and/or data mining concepts.
• Preferred Exposure: Programming experience for data analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization (e.g., SQL, SAS, Python, R, Tableau, etc.) is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Hourly Rate: While a base hourly rate range of $18.00 – $22.60 is referenced, this position is compensated at a fixed rate of $25 an hour for undergraduate level students and $28 an hour for graduate level students.
• Sign-on Bonus: Interns are eligible to receive a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
• Visa Sponsorship: KeyBank’s Program Internship and Analyst positions are not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes situations where a candidate might have temporary work authorization (like CPT, OPT) but would require H-1B sponsorship within a few years of employment.
