Student Employee | Monroe Community College

The Tone:
This is a student employee position at Monroe Community College, located in Rochester, NY. Monroe Community College is a comprehensive community college committed to student success. This role provides practical workplace experience in retail operations, customer service, and inventory management. The position directly assists the daily functions of the MCC Bookstore, ensuring essential resources are available to the college community.

• Mission: Assist the MCC Bookstore staff in daily operations, ensuring excellent customer service while supporting retail, inventory, and fulfillment functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Service: Greet and assist customers as they enter, browse, and exit the store, remaining knowledgeable about current sales and applicable discounts.
• Merchandising: Assist with merchandising products, creating displays, and monitoring inventory by stocking shelves and coolers.
• Inventory Management: Assist with receiving, pricing, and stocking incoming merchandise.
• Order Fulfillment: Pull textbooks from student booklists, assist students on the sales floor, and pull and process web orders.
• Store Operations: Provide additional assistance during special events and peak periods, including the first week of classes, perform general cleaning responsibilities, and work as a team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Must be enrolled in classes at MCC and meet Federal Work-Study eligibility requirements as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
• Experience: Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a customer-facing environment, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Skills: Ability to maintain reliable and punctual attendance within a flexible schedule of 5-15 hours per week, professional communication, and attention to detail.
• Bonus: Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently; basic understanding of a retail environment; highly self-motivated, disciplined, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and able to multitask; basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills; prior customer service or work experience in a retail or campus setting.
