Staff Accountant | Waymark HR Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at a family-owned Western New York manufacturer. The company designs and builds processing systems for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, operating for over 100 years. This new position is crucial for owning the accounts receivable cycle and offers the opportunity to gain comprehensive finance experience by working directly with the Controller. The role is designed for career growth within a stable and long-standing organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Daily Cash Activity: Review, process, and post all daily cash activity, including lockbox, ACH, and wires, to the general ledger, customer accounts, and invoices.
• Manage Accounts Receivable: Own the end-to-end receivables process, monitoring aging accounts, following up on past-due balances, and ensuring consistent cash flow.
• Support Customer Relations: Serve as the primary contact for customer billing inquiries and maintain customer payment portals.
• Assist Financial Close: Support month-end and year-end close procedures and prepare necessary year-end audit schedules.
• Contribute to Financial Planning: Help develop budgets and forecasts using accurate spreadsheets, and assist with special projects across the finance function.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred, but not required, with a desire to build an accounting foundation.
• Experience: Prior experience in accounts receivable, billing, collections, or general accounting from a full-time role or an internship is a plus.
• Skills: Comfort with Microsoft Excel and Office, clear and professional communication with customers, and a sharp eye for detail.
• Bonus: A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field; familiarity with Excel lookups and pivot tables; and experience with any accounting system or ERP, such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision), Business Central, QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP.
