Staff Accountant | Phoenix Tailings

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Phoenix Tailings, located in Burlington, MA. Phoenix Tailings is a rapidly growing clean mining and metals production startup committed to sustainable and economic critical metals production. The company’s mission is to become the world’s first fully clean mining and metals producer, generating the essential resources for the next generation of our economy. This role is crucial for supporting the monthly financial close and the day-to-day accounting operations of a fast-growing manufacturing company. The Staff Accountant will take ownership of critical processes such as journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and account reconciliations, preparing the necessary schedules that support the annual audit. This position offers a clear path to grow as the finance team expands.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries as a core part of the monthly close process.
• Accruals & Prepaids: Calculate and record accruals, maintaining all supporting documentation and prepaid expense schedules with monthly amortization.
• Fixed Assets: Maintain the comprehensive fixed asset register, managing additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
• Reconciliations: Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and meticulously research any reconciling items to ensure accuracy.
• Audit Support: Prepare necessary audit schedules and gather all required documentation in support of the annual financial audit.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required. This position is ideally suited for individuals who are early in their accounting career and are looking for a role with significant ownership.
• Experience: Candidates should possess 1-3 years of direct accounting experience. A working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and a clear understanding of the month-end close process are essential. Previous experience utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is also a prerequisite for this role.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is critical. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities. Clear written and verbal communication abilities are also necessary, coupled with comfort in asking clarifying questions.
• Bonus: Prior public accounting experience is considered a significant plus. Specific experience with NetSuite ERP is highly preferred. Additionally, an eagerness to learn and take on increased ownership within a fast-moving, evolving environment will be highly valued.
