Staff Accountant | Prevailance, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Prevailance, Inc., located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with remote flexibility. Prevailance is a government contractor seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their Finance and Accounting team. This position is crucial for maintaining daily accounting operations, ensuring financial compliance, and supporting the broader corporate accounting needs within a government contracting environment. • Mission: Manages financial data and multiple recurring accounting cycles to support day-to-day accounting operations, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial compliance.
• Tech Stack: Unanet ERP, Paylocity, Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger: Support general ledger accounting and month-end close processes, which includes preparing journal entries, accruals, and comprehensive account reconciliations, along with developing supporting schedules.
• Reconciliations: Perform detailed bank and corporate credit card reconciliations, actively researching and resolving any discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
• Payroll Management: Prepare bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll, accurately processing payroll adjustments, completing necessary reconciliations, generating corresponding journal entries, and managing employee changes within the system.
• Accounts Payable: Efficiently process accounts payable, including reviewing vendor invoices for accuracy and preparing approved ACH and other electronic payments to ensure timely disbursements.
• Compliance & Audits: Maintain accurate accounting, payroll, and disbursement records in strict accordance with GAAP, company procedures, and internal controls; assist with federal, state, and local tax filings, regulatory reporting, and support DCAA, tax, and other financial audits by providing necessary documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, with a strong foundation in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and an understanding of general ledger, journal entries, and accrual accounting.
• Experience: 1–3 years of professional accounting experience; relevant internships or comparable practical accounting experience may be considered, with previous experience supporting payroll, accounts payable, or month-end close.
• Skills: Demonstrate intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency, utilizing various formulas, functions, lookups, and reconciliation techniques for financial data analysis; possess strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to research and resolve accounting discrepancies; exhibit a high degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail; demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple recurring deadlines and priorities; and maintain absolute discretion when handling confidential payroll, employee, banking, and sensitive financial information, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Accounting experience within a U.S. Government contracting environment, familiarity with DCAA, FAR, and government contracting cost accounting principles, experience with Unanet ERP, and/or experience with Paylocity or a comparable payroll/HRIS platform.
