Staff Accountant | Dairy Management Inc.
The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Dairy Management Inc., a nonprofit organization located in the greater Chicagoland area. Dairy Management Inc. is funded by America’s nearly 28,000 dairy farmers and dairy importers, working to increase sales and demand for dairy products through research, education, and innovation, while maintaining confidence in dairy foods, farms, and businesses. The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Finance and Accounting Department, directly contributing to the smooth execution of financial processes and accurate reporting. This position ensures the financial health and operational efficiency that underpin DMI’s mission to promote the goodness of dairy to people, the planet, and communities.

• Team: Reports to the VP Finance / Assistant Controller within the Finance and Accounting Department.
• Mission: Ensure accurate financial records and timely close processes are executed smoothly for DMI Client Companies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Management: Maintain general ledger accounts by executing processes such as journal entry postings and ensuring accurate maintenance for DMI Client Companies.
• Account Reconciliation: Ensure financial accuracy by analyzing account activity and preparing comprehensive monthly reconciliations.
• Month-End Close Support: Assist the team in critical month-end close activities, including the preparation of journal entries, reclassifications, and allocations to meet deadlines.
• Financial Reporting: Contribute to the timely production of monthly financial reporting for assigned companies, providing essential data for decision-making.
• Audit and Efficiency Projects: Support the annual external audit by compiling necessary documentation and participate in ad hoc projects aimed at improving departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, providing core domain knowledge.
• Experience: 0-3 years of general ledger accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to learn new technologies, strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), excellent verbal and written communication skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Bonus: CPA or CPA candidate, and/or non-for-profit experience are a plus.
