Freeport-McMoRan operates a significant copper smelter and rod plant, processing copper concentrate from our Arizona mines and serving as a key source of sulfuric acid for North American leaching operations. This role is essential for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records by supporting the critical accounting close process, ensuring compliance and providing vital financial insights. What You’ll Actually Do
• Account and Report: Perform accounting and reporting duties, with a primary focus on executing the accounting close process.
• Execute Close Process: Complete assigned duties within the accounting close process, applying knowledge of established accounting policies and procedures.
• Analyze and Reconcile: Conduct analysis and reconciliation of accounts utilizing system queries, performing research, investigating reconciling items, and resolving discrepancies.
• Communicate Variances: Analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate identified action items or variances from the month-end close and analytical processes to the supervisor.
• Support Projects: Assist in various accounting and reporting activities and contribute to special projects as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires candidates to have a High School diploma or GED combined with four years of professional accounting experience, including two years of prolonged intellectual instruction in Accounting or Finance; OR an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related area with two years of professional accounting experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related area.
• Experience: Professional experience in accounting, specifically involving the accounting close process, recording journal entries, performing financial analysis, and account reconciliations, is required based on education level.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, analytical abilities for financial data, and effective communication for reporting variances are necessary for success in this role.
• Bonus: A Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related area and intermediate-level Microsoft Excel skills are preferred.
