Sr Phlebotomist II – Day Shift | Beth Israel Lahey Health

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Day Shift, rotates weekends and holidays
• Location: In-person, off-site locations as needed
• Pay: $23.15–$31.16 hourly
• Team: Reports to the Laboratory Manager and/or Team Leader; supervises the section in their absence.
• Mission: Ensures accurate and efficient collection and processing of patient specimens to support diagnostic analysis and patient care.
• Tech Stack: Epic computer system modules

What You’ll Actually Do
• Specimen Collection: Independently perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on adult and pediatric patients, ensuring accurate patient identification and proper specimen labeling.
• Specimen Processing: Process specimens according to written protocols, routing them to the correct laboratory for analysis while adhering to special handling instructions to maintain integrity.
• Clerical Support: Execute various clerical duties related to the laboratory computer system, including accessing patient encounters, verifying demographics, and documenting necessary information.
• Leadership & Supervision: Oversee daily departmental activities, reassign tasks to manage workload, supervise the section, and provide training for new employees and students when a manager or team leader is absent.
• Resource & Problem Resolution: Serve as a primary resource for colleagues, medical staff, and patients regarding collection protocols, investigate problems, and develop solutions for complex situations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level phlebotomist with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Five years of full-time phlebotomy experience, with at least one year specifically at LHMC.
• Skills: Manual dexterity and acuity for difficult venipunctures, strong interpersonal verbal and written English communication, ability to work accurately under pressure, and basic computer proficiency.
• Bonus: Completion of a phlebotomy certification program with externship and/or additional certification by the ASCP Board of Registry.
