KABC-TV (ABC7) is an ABC-owned television station (OTV) located in Glendale, Los Angeles County, within the #2 ranked television market in the United States. The station produces over sixty-three hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs, and public service campaigns weekly.

Job Description:

This is a sports journalism internship with the Eyewitness News Sports Department at KABC-TV. The internship runs from approximately February 2025 to early June 2025 and offers a hands-on experience in the world of local sports production. The intern will be involved in various aspects of the sports news process, including:

Production Participation: Attending production meetings and assisting in the preparation of daily sports shows, segments, and special programming such as “Slam Dunk” and “Sunday Night Sports.”
Interviewing: Interviewing coaches and players, transcribing interviews, and logging and observing sports telecasts.
Research: Researching and contributing to sports news topics, including online and social media research.
Observation: Observing how sports segments are written, edited, and delivered on-air, as well as observing production in the newsroom, studio, and in the field at locations like Dodger Stadium and Crypto.com Arena.

Specific responsibilities will cover a range of sports, from basketball and baseball to hockey and golf, and locations from SoFi Stadium to the Rose Bowl. The internship provides a comprehensive view of local sports production in a major market television station. The successful candidate will gain experience in all facets of sports journalism, from initial research and interviewing to on-air presentation. The internship requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
