About Progress West Hospital and the Job
Progress West Hospital, a part of the BJC HealthCare network, is a community hospital located in St. Charles County. Opened in 2007, the hospital offers a range of services, including 24-hour emergency care (partnering with St. Louis Children’s Hospital for pediatric emergency care), surgical services, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, inpatient medical/surgical services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and a specialty wound treatment facility. The hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center.
The Role
This is a PRN (as needed) Speech Pathologist position within the hospital’s therapy department, which provides inpatient Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Pathology services. The position requires a minimum commitment of 2 full 8-hour shifts every 6 weeks, with weekday availability preferred.
The Speech Pathologist will work with a variety of patients, including those with orthopedic, neurological, medical, and surgical conditions. The hospital emphasizes patient-centered care, tailoring treatment to individual needs, values, and preferences. The Therapy Departments provide inpatient services including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient’s needs, values, and choices.
Key Responsibilities:
• Establishes treatment plan and provides treatment, considering discharge needs; expected discharge functional status; and appropriate equipment and supplies.
• Educates, collaborates with, and conferences with patients, families, and other health care providers; making recommendations for referrals to specialists as needed.
• Delegates to assistants, techs, and students through written and verbal communication including determining the skill level or competency required to provide interventions to best meet the needs of the patient.
• Completes documentation in accordance with departmental policies.
• Provides assessment, reassessment, and/or consultations for Speech Services.
Minimum Requirements:
• Education: Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
• Experience: No prior experience is required.
• Licenses & Certifications: Speech-Language Pathologist license
Preferred Qualifications:
• ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) certification
