Special Projects Operator | idler

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at idler, located in San Francisco. idler is a frontier data research lab focused on building evaluations and environments for the world’s leading AI models. Having recently secured a $9M seed round led by Paradigm, the company has spent the last year developing advanced coding evaluations and has since expanded into diverse domains like RSI & Auto-Research, Law, Enterprise Business, and Cybersecurity. Facing high demand for its data products, idler is rapidly scaling its team and operations. Their data creation approach leverages technology and a self-reinforcing platform that learns from experience. This role is crucial, directly impacting revenue growth by building and managing the expert network that powers idler’s unique data production capabilities.

• Mission: This person will build and automate the systems for recruiting, onboarding, and managing a global network of domain experts to scale data production.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Expert Recruitment: Recruit domain experts by identifying relevant communities, building relationships, and bringing qualified individuals into the network.
• Hiring Process Design: Design and implement the expert hiring process, collaborating with the research team to develop screening rubrics and automating selection.
• Network Operations Management: Oversee daily network operations, including expert onboarding, project scheduling, quality checks, payment processing, and support.
• Tooling Development: Build and improve tools for applications, qualification, scheduling, scoring, payments, reporting, and communication to automate manual steps.
• Compliance and Administration: Manage administrative tasks such as payroll, compliance documentation, and account provisioning for the expert network.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, with a focus on operationally intense environments.
• Experience: One to four years in operational roles, or an exceptional record as a recent graduate.
• Skills:
• Ability to independently build and deploy tools, utilizing AI assistance and documentation to achieve functional results.
• Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills, essential for clear and effective interaction with experts, partners, and internal teams.
• High tolerance for ambiguity, intensity, and sustained effort, demonstrating resilience when problem-solving demands it.
• Demonstrated scrappiness in engaging with people, including the ability to identify key individuals and comfortably integrate into new communities.
• Meticulous attention to detail, with a proactive approach to identifying and rectifying errors before they are discovered by others.
• Bonus: Proven experience integrating into and establishing a respected presence within communities that were initially external to your background; experience organizing events or hosting gatherings, demonstrating an understanding of how to attract and engage participants; or a background in high-pressure, metrics-driven fields such like consulting or banking, where both presentation and numerical targets were critical.
