Special Events Intern

Overview: This position assists the City of Kenmore Special Events Team in event preparations and day of coordination of summer special events for the community. The position is available May through August 2026 (start dates are somewhat flexible). See the 2026 Summer Special Events Schedule listed below. This is a part-time seasonal position; hours of work will vary according to the program needs.

Some of the meaningful work you will be performing as an intern with the City of Kenmore:

Duties

All duties you will be performing will be under the supervision and guidance of the Volunteer & Events Supervisor. Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, preparation and execution of 2026 Special Events
  • Attend and assist with setup, event operations and clean-up of Special Events
  • Photograph events and handle social media posts
  • Coordinate the distribution of flyers, posters and promotional materials
  • Update local event calendars with Kenmore event details
  • Assist with scheduling and recruiting special event volunteers
  • Participate in event debrief meetings
  • Create surveys and distribute for community feedback
  • Ensure regular, predictable, and reliable attendance during scheduled hours

Education/Training Requirements

  • You are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a major in Communications, Hospitality Business Management or similar field
  • You are available to work 12-20 hours per week (flexibility may be allowed for studies and testing), with the potential to work more hours when school is not in session
  • You have the ability to operate conventional motor vehicles in order to perform work in various locations
  • You are able to work in the office and in the field under normal and inclement weather conditions
  • You will be 18 years of age by the start date of May 4, 2026
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule- 10+ hour shifts, evenings and weekends

Preferred

  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail, especially in creating public-facing correspondence
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, with attention to detail
  • You have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • You have experience working special events

Licenses And Certificates

Because you will be traveling to locations throughout the City of Kenmore to perform your work, a valid Washington State Driver’s License with a good driving record is required. If you are selected for this position, you must provide a three (3) year driving record abstract prior to hire.

Additional Information

Pay rate will be dependent upon experience and education level. With the exception of sick leave, this is a non-benefited position. The start date for this position is flexible, but it is expected that the candidate selected will be able to begin work within two weeks of notification.

This internship position is for a term of four (4) months, with the opportunity for extension based on anticipated workload, work performance, and funding. This is a part-time position and will consist of about 12-20 hours per week. This position is eligible for overtime.

Washington Residency: Applicants must reside in Washington State at the time of employment to fulfill job requirements and comply with state employment regulations.

Physical Requirements

Since you will be performing work in both the office and outside in the field with exposure to all weather conditions. You will be standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time and navigating uneven and / or steep terrain.

While performing duties such as the setting up and breaking down at events, you will be bending, lifting, holding objects.
