Spacecraft Electrical Systems Engineering Intern | Millennium Space Systems

The Tone:
This is a temporary onsite internship at Millennium Space Systems, located in El Segundo, CA. The company, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security, builds agile small satellites focused on national security space, contributing to vital missions such as missile warning and Earth observation. This role is integral to the Command and Data Handling team, offering a direct opportunity to influence global security by architecting next-generation avionics systems and driving critical vehicle design decisions.

• Team: Command and Data Handling (CDH) team
• Mission: Oversee electrical interfaces, drive vehicle architecture design, and perform essential C&DH related analyses to contribute to Millennium’s next generation avionics systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Component Selection: Choose avionics and onboard processing units that meet flight software and data handling needs, while balancing performance, power, mass, and cost.
• Architecture Development: Design Command and Data Handling (C&DH) subsystem architectures for space vehicles, making crucial system-level design decisions aligned with mission objectives and constraints.
• Data Budget Analysis: Conduct thorough data budget analyses to ensure positive margins for telemetry, command, and onboard processing streams throughout the mission lifecycle.
• Architecture Validation: Validate C&DH architectures against program fault management requirements, incorporating robust redundancy, watchdogs, and advanced error detection mechanisms.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Degree in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or another relevant engineering field.
• Experience: Knowledge of electrical hardware systems, demonstrated through technical projects, research, or prior engineering internships.
• Skills: Methodical design, testing, and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Bonus: Strong academic performance (preferred GPA of 3.0 or above), exceptional organizational and collaboration skills demonstrated through leadership roles, strong communication skills, and Junior or Senior class standing.
