South Lorain Library Food Justice Intern | South Lorain Public Library
The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at the South Lorain Public Library, located in Lorain, Ohio. The library operates a Food Literacy program and an urban farm dedicated to providing quality local produce to the community. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in sustainable farming practices. The intern will directly support food justice initiatives by helping to cultivate and maintain the urban farm, ensuring access to healthy foods for the local community.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Farm Maintenance: Assist the farm manager with essential tasks such as planting, cultivation, watering, weeding, and harvesting crops.
• Farm Upkeep: Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure a well-functioning and productive farm environment.
• Operations Assistance: Aid in maintaining scheduling and record-keeping for volunteers, interns, staff, and maintenance activities.
• Data Collection: Participate in data collection, including monitoring crop growth, recording weather conditions, and documenting the food justice impact within the local community.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the farm team manager and staff on various tasks and projects as needed to support the farm’s mission and operations.

• Background: Enthusiasm for sustainable agriculture, food justice, healthy foods, community-building, and civic agriculture.
• Experience: A strong desire to learn about farm operations.
• Skills: Strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a team, physical ability to engage in farm-related tasks (including lifting, bending, and prolonged outdoor work), and a willingness to adapt.
• Bonus: Basic knowledge of agriculture.
