Software Engineering Intern – Summer 2026

About The Program

Symetra’s Internship Program for Summer 2026 is entirely remote – all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

Summary

The Software Engineering Intern solves business needs by building quality software with guidance from senior engineering team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop secure, high quality, performant scalable code, using the required programming language and tools.
  • Assist in the design and development of software solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in requirements definition, design walkthroughs, and code reviews.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards.
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues, providing timely resolutions.
  • Define and perform unit testing of code. Support functional and regression testing efforts.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to enhance your technical skills and understanding of software development methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled full-time and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience required.
  • Programming experience with C#. Experience with other object-oriented languages like Java or Python is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
  • Experience with Database technologies.
  • Hands-on experience building systems in one or more cloud providers – AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the SDLC (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Developing analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.

Remote Network Minimum Requirements

As a remote-first organization, Symetra has the following standards for employees’ internet connection:

  • Minimum Internet Speed: 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, in alignment with the FCC’s definition of “broadband.”
  • Internet Type: Fiber, Cable (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum), or DSL.
  • Not Permissible: Satellite (e.g., Starlink), cellular broadband (hotspot or otherwise), any other wireless technology, or wired dial-up.

When applying, you’ll be asked to test your internet speed and confirm that your internet connection meets or exceeds Symetra’s standard.

Identity Verification
