Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Intern/Co-op Job Description

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Intern/Co-op at Meraki, you’ll be a part of a global engineering team responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of Meraki’s cloud services. You will be directly involved in projects spanning from server hardware and operating systems to tools for code deployment and service monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain software and systems for monitoring, scaling, and deploying distributed cloud services.
• Make crucial decisions about managing and scaling complex, high-performance distributed systems.
• Provide insights and develop innovative solutions to improve cloud service management and infrastructure.
• Work on a variety of projects, starting with smaller integration and implementation tasks, and progressing to larger, more complex projects, like building infrastructure for new services.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team, gaining exposure to diverse languages and technologies.
• Receive 1:1 mentorship from experienced engineers, gaining guidance and support throughout the program.

This role is a great fit for individuals who are:

• Pursuing a technical bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals.
• Proactive learners who are comfortable working with multiple frameworks, languages, and environments.

• Eager to learn from experience and receive feedback.
• Have prior internship or large-scale project experience.
• Familiar with networking, data visualization, distributed systems, databases, container orchestration, or Ruby on Rails.
• Authorized to work in Australia without requiring sponsorship.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with *nix systems, particularly Debian and Ubuntu.
• Experience with container technologies like Docker Swarm and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Logstash, ElasticSearch, OpenTelemetry, statsd, and collectd.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or Gitlab.
