Senior Engineer I – Component | Microchip Technology
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Microchip Technology, located in the US. Microchip Technology is a global organization that designs the technology powering the world around us, particularly focusing on advanced manufacturing and semiconductor-related assemblies. This Senior Engineer role is critical for supporting and driving the development, qualification, and management of essential suppliers and components used in these assemblies. You will play a key part in ensuring reliability, supplier performance, and material and process integrity across the entire supply base.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Supplier Qualification & Audits: Lead supplier qualification, audits, and capability assessments for new and existing vendors.
• Technical Supplier Leadership: Act as a technical lead for suppliers, driving performance in quality, delivery, and root cause and corrective action planning.
• Component Performance Assurance: Ensure that all supplied products meet mechanical, thermal, and material performance requirements.
• Technical Documentation & Approval: Review and approve drawings, specifications, and material and process requirements.
• Quality Issue Resolution: Lead or support root cause investigations related to supplier quality issues.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field. This role requires a Senior-level engineer with a strong foundation in engineering, supplier quality, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience: 5 – 7 years of professional experience in engineering, supplier quality, and manufacturing. This includes demonstrated strong previous experience as a technical lead for suppliers, driving performance and corrective actions.
• Skills: Strong background in materials science and process–material interactions is essential. Proficiency in supplier qualification, auditing, and capability assessments is required. Ability to lead or support root cause investigations for quality issues.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred, or 3-5 years’ experience. Experience in semiconductor, aerospace, or high-reliability manufacturing environments. Familiarity with hermetic packaging and microelectronics assembly, and knowledge of electroless and electrolytic plating of electronic packaging. Knowledge of common semiconductor industry standards and proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD are also desirable.
